Remote recording, also known as online session work, is the process of creating and recording music or audio outside of a traditional commercial studio. In the past musicians were confined to expensive studios, with the hopes of having a record label who could foot the bill for them. Time and money could often cause restrictions and for those unable to land a big money deal, it meant that recording was often out of the reach of the majority of musicians. But, now with the ability to share big files online, a new DIY approach and with the decreasing cost of recording equipment, we have now reached an exciting period of time where more and more musicians are able to turn their songs into concrete recordings. The first thing to do is contact Pete to discuss the project. This may include how many songs you need recording, what style(s) the songs are in and the timeframe you require them done in. You may have your own drum ideas or midi parts already figured out, or you might want Pete to lay down something completely fresh and new. Next, Pete will track an initial ‘demo’ version of the song(s) which will bring together all of the elements you have already discussed. This is the point when any revisions or tweaks can be discussed. Once you are 100% happy, Pete will start tracking. You will get three solid takes for each song or project. These will be sent to you via a link where you can download each individual stem as a WAV file. These you can drag and drop straight into your DAW ready for mixing and mastering.
